One year ago this summer, we commemorated film critic extraordinaire Nathan Rabin’s departure from the late, lamented thedissolve.com with a Summer of Rabin where commenters were invited to write their own entry in one of his many series. One of the most memorable of Rabin’s series was Forgotbusters, in which he would examine movies that made a lot of money but not much of an impression. If that column had any flaws, it was this: first, obviously, was that it ended too soon. Secondly, Forgotbusters by and large dealt with a box office landscape that’s still recognizable. What about all those old-time hits from before Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark that look nothing like the blockbusters we know today? With that in mind, I here invite all of the Solute’s commenters and contributors to join me in commemorating the Forgotbusters of the distant past.
