Congratulations, you’re for real going broke this week. Many companies have seemingly gotten together and decided to release some of their most enticing releases at the same time. Scream Factory sees fit to give two absolute all-time horror greats, The Thing and Carrie, the definitive special editions they deserve, with new restorations and supplements, as does Arrow for The Hills Have Eyes. Criterion finally gives Robert Altman’s McCabe and Mrs. Miller a home video release worthy of its stature, and then drops their extras-packed release of Richard Linklater’s Boyhood at the same time. Lionsgate brings the HD transfer of Glengarry Glen Ross to the U.S. and gives Hannibal the complete series treatment, the same treatment Mill Creek affords to Miami Vice and Knight Rider. Sony sadly dumps Sofia Coppola’s excellent Marie Antoinette on a burn-on-demand Blu-Ray, while the Warner Archive Collection shows how it’s done by giving Nicholas Ray’s On Dangerous Ground a newly-restored pressed Blu-Ray. And Twilight Time continues to beg you to dignify them with a second look by releasing the likes of Boxcar Bertha, Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte, The Train, and Runaway Train (those last two are currently available in excellent UK releases from Arrow, in case you’re region-free and/or really reluctant to give Twilight Time your money). Of course, if you’re not a fan of, you know, good films, Ice Age: Whatever is also out.
