New on DVD and Blu-Ray

Unlike those rat bastards at StudioCanal/Lionsgate, Paramount is at least getting down to brass tacks with the Criterion titles they took out-of-print. Within a few months we already have a new Blu-Ray of Robert Altman’s Nashville, with a new and improved 4K transfer but not many of the features from the Criterion release. I won’t make your decision between the two for you, but maybe the Criterion interviews and the worse picture aren’t worth the additional $300 you’d be spending on them versus the Paramount. Instead you can put that money into buying the few other good titles out this week, including the American Blu-Ray debut of A Place in the Sun and the long-awaited restoration of Hirokazu Kore-eda’s After Life.

After Life (Criterion)
Havoc (Shout Factory)
The House Next Door: Meet the Blacks 2 (Lionsgate)
Lilies of the Field (Kino)
Nashville (Paramount)
One Crazy Summer (Warner Archive Collection)
A Place in the Sun (Paramount)
