On two very opposite ends of the spectrum, Criterion’s Blu-Ray upgrade of Eric Rohmer’s Six Moral Tales and Sony’s 4K release of Martin Campbell’s The Mask of Zorro provide the two major highlights of this otherwise pretty lackluster week for home video. Other than those two and the lost-to-time Best Picture nominee A Thousand Clowns, the major titles this week are all underachieving new releases, from instantly-forgotten slow-burn horror films from people who have done better in the past (Gretel & Hansel from Blackcoat’s Daughter‘s Oz Perkins and The Lodge from the directing duo behind Goodnight Mommy) to John Turturro finally making a Jesus Quintana spin-off despite that literally never being a good idea.
