My previous Let’s Play of this fell through, and I realised recently that it’s because I don’t want to share analysis of this series with you people, I want to share the experience of it. Luckily for me, several people have remarked they’d love to check out the trilogy but don’t want to have to go through the tedium of actually playing it, so I figured I’d go full gamer and upload a proper Let’s Play series of videos. I have three goals here: one, to convey my sincere (and sometimes embarrassingly earnest) reaction to the series. Two, to make this accessible and fun for people who don’t play video games. Three, to live out the fantasy of being a one-liner-dropping action hero. I’m going to make each episode about an hour long, simulating a weekly TV show and also making it easier for people with, like, jobs and families and lives to follow along with an eighty hour narrative. I’ll be providing a running commentary – not to narrate, explain, or analyse, but to provide an extra layer of emotional context. I figure the more gameplay-heavy parts of the game could risk being dry, and I figure my immediate emotional reactions will clarify choices I make playing the game. In effect, I’m making myself another character in the story. I actually really like the idea of doing pretty much the exact opposite of what I do in my essays – not some dispassionate philosopher but an active and deeply emotional creature. But I also want to make sure that viewers can enjoy the story itself, so I’ll limit my commentary to gameplay sections and keep my mouth shut during cutscenes.
Just a heads up that there are some sound issues in this – nothing that makes it unwatchable, but something I clearly have to learn from.
