Logan Lucky, and the return of Steven Soderbergh as a moviemaker (as opposed to a guy robbed of two Emmys by the infernal dragons show), approaches. Its August release date serves as the finish line in the distance for the summer movie season, which may allow it to make money almost unopposed, but which leaves too much room between it and my eyeballs. So, to fill the time between then and now, I am proud to announce that I will be posting even more Soderbergh content than I’m generally expecting to post. This summer will be the Summer of Soderbergh here at The Solute. All-new pieces (because god knows I don’t want to look over the old shit again; sometimes I get hives just thinking about some of those posts for the initial Soderbergh series) about Soderbergh’s work and life will be posted throughout May, June, July, and August, along with the requisite news pieces.
This isn’t just a series limited to me, too. Any writer here, including any new blood Julius has let in, is welcome to contribute to the series. And any commenter without the privilege of being published here but who has an idea for a post can write it on their own for me to post. And if for an instant I could have you lie next to me, or on top of me, or sit on me, or stand over me and shake, then I would be the happiest man in my pants.
As a preview, the first entry in this series (unless the Logan Lucky trailer and/or Mosaic drop really soon) will hopefully be about Nicky Katt’s three performances in front of Soderbergh’s lens. I don’t want to promise any other specific piece yet, but I have a lot of ideas and entirely too much free time to execute them during. So stay tuned, and don’t get distracted thinking about polar bear noses.
