Here’s All The News Announced At The 2015 Star Wars Comic-Con Panel

What would Comic-Con be without Star Wars? Even in the past decade when the franchise hasn’t released new movies, The Clone Wars and Hasbro have kept the spirit of Star Wars very much alive at this famous convention. As one might imagine, since the first live-action Star Wars movie in over a decade arrives this December, the epic film saga was there with cast members from the upcoming feature Star Wars: The Force Awakens. To boot, some other bombshells were dropped in regards to future Star Wars motion pictures.

Here are the biggest pieces of news to come from the panel, along with my thoughts on each individual development.

A New Force Awakens Trailer Won’t Be Out Until The Fall
I thought they might debut a trailer here at Comic-Con and then have it go out on Ant-Man next week, but whatever. The first two teasers have been so great they’ll easily tide me over until they’re ready to share more footage.

Simon Pegg Will Be In The Force Awakens…But In Heavy Disguise
Longtime J.J. Abrams collaborator Simon Pegg will be in the movie playing some sort of alien.

Domhnall Gleeson Is Playing A Bad Guy
The prevailing fan theory ever since Gleeson was cast in The Force Awakens was that he would be playing Luke Skywalkers son thanks to his resemblance to Mark Hamill. Turns out he’s playing a villain named General Hux.

The Villains Base Is Called The Starkiller Base
I understood that reference.

Rogue One Starts Filming In Three Weeks
The first spin-off movie in the Star Wars saga is almost underway!

No Collin Trevorrow Related Announcements
That may seem like a weird piece of news to bring up, but an early rumor that circulated online all day today was that Collin Trevorrow was going to be announced at the director of Star Wars: Episode IX. Considering the dude was gonna help Brad Bird direct Episode VII at one point in time, it didn’t sound far-fetched. But no announcements were made regarding the director of Episodes IX. To this piece of news I say THANK GOD. Trevorrow seems like a nice enough guy in interviews, but I didn’t care for his directing in Jurassic World one bit. Get another director like Brad Bird or Michelle Maclaren to handle Episode IX and actually bring something visually interesting to the table, please please.

And now, enjoy this new behind-the-scenes video, showing some shenanigans on the set of The Force Awakens.
