We depend on critics to provide perspectives on art, but by and large, they’ve only provided one, male perspective. That’s affected our “canon” of great film, one that’s overwhelmingly stories of big, important men doing big, important men. So for Women’s Month, we’re inviting you to add your perspective. Who are the great female filmmakers and artists who never got the recognition of their male peers? What are the masterpieces all your ladyfriends love that have never been recognized as the classics they are? What “chick flicks” and “guilty pleasures” have more depths than the critical establishment is willing to acknowledge?
A reminder, again, that this series is open only to female and non-binary writers, and generally everybody but the men. Fellas, we have all year to speak our mind. Why not sit down and listen for a change? Everybody else, sign up now!
