Last year, a study by TIFF confirmed a fact we’d all suspected for a long time: film criticism has a diversity problem. And that just doesn’t just apply to who’s getting jobs in the present: it affects how we look at the medium’s entire past. In other words, the canon of film history is a men’s canon. So this March, Women’s History Month 2019, we’ll be taking submissions from all non-male-identifying readers on the could-have-been classics that male-dominated criticism has dismissed and ignored.
