Kino continues their run as the most maddeningly inconsistent label, doing well by Robert Altman’s The Long Goodbye with a new 4K restoration but also botching the audio on their 4K of John Woo’s Hard Target (easily The Long Goodbye‘s superior in the arena of Wilford Brimley on a horse). At least they’re offering replacements for the latter rather than just going “nuh uh!” like they have for issues past. Elsewhere, you also have a new 4K restoration of Harold and Maude, part of Paramount’s continued efforts to try to beat Criterion at their own game. They succeed this week, as all Criterion has to offer is yet another question mark about the necessity of every well-received streaming movie coming to Criterion, with their Blu-Ray of One Night in Miami.
