Some people will tell you that On the Rocks, finally out on Blu-Ray this week after being on Apple TV+ for a year, is minor Sofia Coppola, a lightweight comedy out of place in her filmography. These people are wrong, On the Rocks‘ comic tenor proves to be just another way for Coppola to stage a story about people left isolated and adrift by their privilege bubbles. It’s funny, but its frosty, melancholy air is what lingers, especially with its Bill Murray performance that plays with the sad, pathetic nature of old Bill Murray without making him a sad clown.
The only other thing I wish to say about this week’s slate is that Shout Factory releasing Nothing But Trouble as their Halloween-week title is very funny.
