My most anticipated movie of 2015, no contest, was Richard Linklaters That’s What I’m Talking About, his newest feature after making my favorite movie of 2014, Boyhood. Alas, it looks like I’ll just have to settle for the likes a new Star Wars movie and The Martian in terms of forthcoming 2015 films as Linklaters next effort has not only ditched its original title (to my knowledge, it’s still untitled) but it has also been given an official release date….in April 2016.
Yeah, Paramount (the studio that simultaneously enables Michael Bay to make endless Transformers sequels while also funding risky dramas like Selma and Noah) has scheduled an April 15, 2016. I’d assume it’ll open in limited release, but Deadline, which broke the announcement, doesn’t specify if it’ll open in wide or limited release. Paramount has let this Untitled Richard Linklater Film replace Bad Moms on its schedule. No shocker that Bad Moms got delayed, since its star, Leslie Mann, dropped out of the project, though there’s no current word on if the movies cancelled or delayed.
As an aside, I am curious about the release date of another forthcoming Paramount Pictures release; The Big Short. This Adam McKay directed film stars Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale and Steve Carell and I’m curious to see if they’ll give the movie a late 2015 release in order to get into awards season or just wait until 2016. Only time will tell.
EDITED TO ADD: Brief release date update; Universal has delayed Neighbors 2 by a week to a May 20, 2016 release.
