After last week’s embarrassment of riches, we’re slowing way the fuck down this week. The big title is George Stevens’ Swing Time, with some of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers’ most iconic dance numbers and also a smattering of blackface. The only other essential release this week (although I suspect our Fearless Leader will go to bat for Can’t Stop the Music in the comments) is Arbelos’ restoration of Andrew Bujalski’s Mutual Appreciation, one of the few mumblecores most can agree is good, now on Blu-Ray to capitalize on Support the Girls fever. Elsewhere, there’s Patty Jenkins and Chris Pine’s Black Dahlia miniseries I Am the Night, the lukewarm MCU entry Captain Marvel (enlivened mostly by Ben Mendelsohn and Samuel L. Jackson having a lot of fun and Annette Bening boogieing to “Come As You Are”), and a bunch of movies that conclusively do not exist. Captive State? The Mustang? Five Feet Apart? Sound made up to me, dunno what to tell you.
